Serving Kent County Area since 2011, some of the Peter’s legislative highlights include:

  • Cut legislator pay by 10%
  • Eliminated lifetime benefits for legislators
  • Cut his office budget by over 18%
  • Appropriated funds to pay down the state’s long-term debt by $20 billion
  • Increased funding to the state’s “rainy day” budget saving fund to over $1 Billion
  • Increased additional funding to roads by $750 million
  • Created the Veteran’s Home Ombudsmen statute
  • Cut Michigan income taxes
  • Helped pass “Freedom to Work” legislation (also known as “Right to Work”)
  • Created the Fostering Futures Scholarship Fund – to provide scholarships to aged out foster kids
  • Passed a structurally balanced state budget 8-years in a row (and four months ahead of schedule)
  • Helped Eliminate the job killing Michigan Business Tax (MBT)
  • Eliminated lifetime welfare benefits and implementing a 48-month lifetime cap on cash assistance for able-bodied individuals
  • Invested in K12 public education by increasing the funding by $1 billion since 2012 (currently more than $14.7 billion – most in state history)
  • Helped phase-out the Personal Property Tax (PPT)
  • Sponsored legislation to end double taxation on Michigan businesses
